favourite color

15. April 2017

What I like about black-and-white photographs is that they´re more like reading the book than seeing the movie.

Between Christmas and Easter, I just like it very clear and easy. White tulips, white grape hyacinths, simple decoration preferably made of concrete, wood and glass; without much ornamentation.

And even after Easter you can find many shades between black and white.

My favourite shirt is surprisingly grey and the most daring colour in my wardrobe is … orange (THIS is certainly due to my genes).

It’s similar with photography: I love black and white photography. But not exclusively. That would be too narrow for me. But quite often I just like the black-and-white print better. It feels more right… (exceptions confirm the rule!)

You don’t have to see everything to find a photo fascinating. And it’s this “not seeing everything” that makes it so exciting for me.

In the end there is light and shadow and countless grayscales in between. I like that. And perhaps colour is simply not meant for me…

In the end, only three things matter: how much you loved, how gently you lived, and how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you

Therefore: this reduction to the essentials is what fascinates me artistically, even though I am very happy that my life through Markus and the girls brings so much colour <3
